2001
2001 again saw some outstanding individual achievements. Chris Cook came 5th in the World Student
Games in Beijing
in August. Sarah Whewell, finalist in the 100m IM at the European Short Course Championships, together with Darren Wigg represented
Great Britain in Antwerp
in December. Tim Reddish MBE, took 3 gold medals at the European Disability Championships. The year finished with Chris Cook
ranked 23rd in the world and Sarah Whewell ranked 25th.
Andrew Thirlwell broke the British Junior
record for 100m IM at Norwich and set a new British Junior
record for the 200m IM at the City Pool in December.
Medallists at National Level included Chris Cook, Sarah Whewell,
Julie Fort, Darren Wigg, Andrew Thirlwell and Danielle Berry.
National Age Group medallists included Sam Espinet, Danielle
Berry, Richard Savage, Andrew Thirlwell and Claire Mead.
Student National medallists included Sarah Whewell and Darren
Wigg.
Masters National medallists included Ed Sawyers, Alex Brown, Phil Latimer, Kevin Smith and Lorraine Montford.
2002
2002 saw World, Commonwealth and British honours gained by City swimmers. Sarah Whewell swam for England at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester
during August. Tim Reddish won 3 gold medals at the World Disability Championships in Argentina and was part of the 4 x 100m freestyle team which broke the World Record.
Martin Douglas won 7 medals at the World Masters Championships in Melbourne.
Andrew Thirlwell gained his first International cap in Paris.
Medallists at National Level included Chris Cook, Sarah Whewell, Darren Wigg and Tim Reddish.
National Youth medallists included Rachel Thompson, Ian Hulme, Paul Robson, Richard Savage and Andrew
Thirlwell.
National Junior medallists were Claire Mead and Richard Savage.
Student National medallists included Julie Fort, Sarah Whewell, Chris Cook and Darren Wigg.
Masters National medallists were Rachel Clinkard and Martin Douglas.
Commonwealth Games triallists were Julie Fort, Rachel Thompson, Sarah Whewell, Chris Cook and Darren Wigg.
The Durham and District Junior League
team were a creditable 7th in the national final in Grantham.
Andrew Thirlwell was selected for the World Class Potential Youth Programme.
