1986
Alastair Johnson progressed as World Deaf Champion and in 1986 the club established two World records
in the Guinness Book of Records, but more significantly in this year the club had its first international in Philippa Rickard
representing the England Youth Squad in Barcelona.
1987
In 1987 Jill Campbell became the club’s first National Age Group Champion winning the 12 years 100
metres Breaststroke.
1988
The following year in 1988 Paul Hogg won the National Long Distance Championships.
1989
In 1989 Alastair Johnson won the World Deaf 1500 metres Freestyle championship in Auckland, New Zealand.
1990
The first Senior Champion and National Record Holder was Caroline Kerr winning the 200 metres Breaststroke
in 1990. She also set a Scottish Junior 200 metres Breaststroke record.
1991
This was followed by Samantha Foggo who won the 800 metres Freestyle Championship in 1991 and went on
to represent Britain at the European Championships in Athens. Since 1991 City of Newcastle
has had a swimmer at every major championships in the world.
1992
1992 saw Sam Foggo become the first Olympic swimmer from Newcastle.
Sam
was followed quickly by Sue Rolph who first swam for Britain in a major
championship at Sheffield in the European Championships.
1994
Sue went on to break Junior
British Records on her way to Commonwealth Team Gold in 1994 in Victoria,
Canada.
Sue was the club’s representative in the
Centenary Olympics in Atlanta. Following Atlanta Sue has broken
British, Commonwealth and European records.
