ASA NER Championships June 2008

Competition Report

North East Region Bagcat Long Course Championships, Ponds Forge, Sheffield, June 7-8, 14-15
A total of 12 AA swimmers competed at these championships bringing home a total of 14 medals from 110 swims with 42 finalists and 70 long course PB's. The squad also produced 6 national qualifying times for the Bagcat champs in July.

Andrew Burn
is really having a great swim season, 14 swims saw Burnsy coming away with 5 medals, 2 gold & 3 bronze. Andrew was top of the pile in his 100 back with 1.05.43 (a national time) & 100 fly on a 1.04.26 (also a national time), he also took a bronze in the 200 back. Andrew made with final in 200IM, 200 fly & 200 free. He also took the 13 yrs Bagcat overall bronze as well as helping team mates Oliver Bratley, Jamie MacGee & Alex Wheeler to a bronze in the 4 x 100 medley relay.

Two of the newest squad members, Josh Hobbs & Lucy Pages made real breakthrough performances at this meet. Josh came away with 3 medals & two superb national times in 100 & 200 fly on 1.06.66 & 2.31.77 respectively. Josh came in a 1.03.87 from bronze in the 100 free. He made 6 finals out of his 7 events. Lucy also took home 3 medals, one of each colour & a national time in her gold medal winning performance of 2.34.95 in the 200 back. She also won silver in 100 back with a 1.15.81 & took a bronze in the 11 years Bagcats.

Jamie MacGee
bagged himself 3 medals as well. Individually he won silver in 100 breast confirming his recent converted national time by going 1.15.81 in his heat & a bronze with 2.47.55 in 200 breast. His other bronze was in the medley relay.

Alex Wheeler
also got himself on the medal podium by taking a taking a bronze with his 17.51.95 in the 1,500 free. He also was in the 100 medley bronze winning team. All of his 7 swims produced long course pb's.

Oliver Bratley
was our last medallist as part of the medley team. He also made 7 finals from his 15 swims producing 10 pb's. Oliver was 4th in 100 fly & 100 back.

Catherine Shafto
was only 0.38 off her 100 free national time, making the final in that event & the 200 free & 100 fly as well.

Rebecca Rogerson
in her first ever NER long course champs made the final in 100 back finishing with a great 1.15.83 finishing 5th. She also pb'd in 100 free.

Jake Harland
made the final in 200 back with a 6th & 100 fly 8th. His 10 swims produced 8 long course pb's.

Nicola Hastings
made the final in 100 breast & her 7 swims produced 5 new best times.

Zoe Kirkwood
had six swims pb'g in 4 of them

Vanessa Venchard
produced two new best times in her two events.
