Dolphin Squads

Squads > Dolphin Squad

Competitive Development Squad (N&D)

The basic entry standard for the Dolphins is the ability to swim competently. The aims
of the Dolphins are to improve basic stroke techniques, starting and turning skills as well
as other competitive skills, leading to ASA NPTS stroke awards and start awards.

Highly successful and enthusiastic Inter-Dolphin contests are arranged between the four
Dolphin squads and the Newburn squad, three times a year at the city pool to introduce
swimmers to competitive swimming, and are held in March, July and November.

Promotion to the Super Dolphin squad will be the joint responsibility of the Dolphin coach
and the Swimming Development Officers

New to swimming? What to expect..

Galas: B Squad swimmers are able to compete in swimming galas from the age of 9 yrs.

Your coach or squad rep will tell you when competitions are coming up, or you

can 'click here' to look at our Event diary.

Time Trials: Time trials take place once a month and you will be expected to attend so that your coach can see how fast you can swim!  Time trials are a great way of gaining experience of competing in galas and give you a chance to meet other swimmers too.  Time trials take part on a Sunday and are normally called the 'Sunday Swim'.  Swimmers from all clubs in the City of Newcastle will take part. Click here for more information.

Mums and Dads can take part too! They can help by taking times, marshalling (sorting swimmers into their respective events) helping record times or selling raffle tickets.

Super Dolphins

The basic entry standard for the Super Dolphins is the ability to swim competently and to show promise. The aim of the Super Dolphins is to further the Dolphin swimmers by means of a extra coaching session a week and by encouraging them to take part in competition with swimmers outside Newcastle, e.g. Northumberland and Durham Counties (N&D), Durham and District Junior League teams and Newcastle Shrimp Meet.

Promotion to B squad will be the joint responsibility of the Super Dolphin coaches and the Swimming Development Officers.
